In Memory of Miss Chloe
Birdy was found abandoned and near death in a log pile as a tiny kitten.
He has a birth defect and is missing his lower left rear leg.
His birth mother had been killed by coyotes so Birdy and two other kittens were left to die alone.
Since he did not get his birth mother's nutrients he has suffered from numerous health issues including diabetes.
He recently went into shock, ketoacidosis, and we nearly lost him.
He also has severe gum disease and will need the rest of his teeth pulled when he is well enough.
Birdy is a sweet boy and loves to crawl up into your lap.

Chloe was a stray who was found in a ditch next to the road.
Terrified that her rescuer was going to hurt her she bit them in pure panic and fear.
She was labeled 'AGGRESSIVE' and spent the next five years in a rescue.
No one was interested in her due to her 'AGGRESSIVE' lable and her severe food allergies.
Sadly, there is not one aggressive bone in her body. She is a total sweetheart and preciously gentle angel.
Chloe came to us morbidly obese and she could barely walk.
We think they were overfeeding her at the other facilty because they felt sorry for her.
We fell in love with this sweetie and brought her to the ranch.
We got her on a good diet, exercise, and lots of love.
Chloe is now at a perfect weight, she loves her snuggly bed and blankie and will never pass up a carrot treat.
UPDATE 7/12/22
With a broken heart I share the loss of this precious girl.
At 16+ years, she developed seizures and loss of balance.
We will miss this bright sunshine this happy girl radiated.

Jazzy was in a shelter for so long he got the award for 'Longest Resident'.
He has so many health issues that no one wanted him. He was malnourished and had infections in his mouth so bad he couldn't eat. He barely had any fur the first time I saw him. He also has ongoing allergies and gets stressed very easily.
We couldn't resist his charm and brought him home to the ranch to give him a loving forever home.
Jazzy is an adult male kitty with one of the worst cases of stomatitis I've seen.
Stomatitis is painful ulcers in the mouth like a canker sore.
He had to have all his teeth pulled and still the ulcers come back.
Jazzy has to go to the vet regularly for injections for calming down the ulcers and helping him with his over-grooming.
He pulls big chunks of fur out when he is uncomfortable.
He is a super love bug and we do everything we can to keep him as comfy as possible.

Stomatitis in cats is a complex, painful, and frustrating disease that
causes severe inflammation of the entire mouth, including the gum tissue
around the teeth, the tongue, and mucous membranes.
There is no known cause or cure.
Veterinarians do know that there is an abnormal immune system
response that leads to stomatitis.
It’s most likely an exaggerated response to bacteria and plaque on the teeth, but the exact cause of that response remains a mystery.
Successful treatment of feline stomatitis requires minimizing
bacteria in the cat’s mouth as much as possible.
Jazzy goes in for regular treatments to maintain a healthy quaility of life

Bergie came to us with a serious injury from a dog attack when she was a kitten.
A portion of her upper and lower palate was destroyed and required emergency surgery and a long rehabilitation.
As you can see she is showing off her unique smile with a few missing teeth and is doing well with a special diet and ongoing care.
Bergie needs regular dentals and check ups to make sure no debris is in the surgery site.
She is not a fan of the toothbrush so for now we just go in and let the vet check her teeth.
Her upper lip gets caught on her lower canine tooth so that may be an issue down the road.
We'll have to watch and see.
In the meantime, she is enjoying the sunshine and lounging on the deck on warm days.

Dumped by a heartless owner Shadow found a loving forever home here on the ranch.
This boy is an avid hunter and loves to chase anything that moves.
He is so affectionate it is hard to believe that he was dumped.
Good news to report, all of his test results were good so now it is time to start integrating him with the other residents.
This is a painfully slow process to ensure everyone's safety and comfort.
Most people introduce cats too quickly which can lead to many problems.
We feel like we struck gold when we found him wandering through our property looking for his next meal.
He will never go hungry again and the days of trying to hunt to survive will only be a far off memory.
Shadow has a forever home here on the ranch.

This guy...Karen was walking down the long driveway one summer day.
It was about 90 degrees out and this was not something she would normally do because going back was all uphill.
It must have been fate.
Along the way she heard a high pitched distress call from a kitten.
It turned out to be Owie sounding the alarm.
He and his two littermates were left to die after the birth mom was killed by coyotes.
They were in a pile of logs and didn't have much time left.
Starving, dehydrated, their tiny bodies could barely move.
The two boys, Owie and Birdy were missing their hind leg from a birth defect.
The female, Thomas, was okay but starving and malnourished.
Even with only 3 legs, this handsome boy is doing just fine.
He signature 'OWwwwww, Owwwww, owwww' meow is how he got his name and literally how I found him that day.
If it weren't for the loud call for help they never would have made it.

Beady Pop was one of the founding residents on the ranch. He was a Chihuahua/terrior mix who left this world in June 2022.
He lived a good, long life here on the ranch.
He was a very good protector and was a devoted part of our family.
He lost his eyesight and we had to become his seeing eye humans.
He adapted quite well to his vision loss and it was harder on us than it was on him.
He just rolled with it each day and was as happy as he could be.
Soon after that his liver failed
and at the age of 12. we had to say goodbye.
There is a huge empty space in our home without him and we miss him every day.
We love you Beady Pop!

I rescued Charlotte and her four siblings from a hoarding situation.
They were tiny kittens that I could hold with just two fingers they were so malnourished.
Their eyes were sealed shut from infections and all of the kittens had upper respiratory problems.
Her brothers, Billy and Merlin transitioned years ago but they lived a good and happy life here on the ranch.
Charlotte is deaf and has mobility issues from arthritis. Her eyesight is starting to fade too.
We sadly said goodbye to Charlotte on October 25th, 2022. At 19.5 her body was finally too tired and we let her go with dignity.
Rest in the arms of angels sweet girl.

This is Toby. He is a Morgan/Quarter horse cross. He is about 35+ years old.
Toby came to the ranch from an abusive home where he was repeatedly beaten on the left side of his head.
For many years I could not touch that part of his face nor would he turn to the left.
It was as if he was seeing a replay of the abuse if he looked to his left.
He is now a permanent fixture in the sloping pastures and eats fresh grass in the spring and summer.
His only job is to enjoy the sunshine, trees, and meadows.
Toby has no more teeth left so he has a special diet of enhanced hay pellets with added nutrients.
Arthritis and age onset muscle atrophy keep him on supplements and special weight gain powder.

We said goodbye to this sweet boy of 35+ years. His age related health issues caught up with him.

Beanie is a 9-year-old Italian Greyhound mix who had a bad start in life.
He was a stray and on his own scared and starving. He was picked up by a high kill shelter in Pasadena, CA.
A volunteer transported him to Spokane, WA where Karen rescued him and brought him to the ranch.
He suffered from malnutrition, abuse, and many other frightening experiences in his young life.
It took quite a while to get him to his optimum weight and to help him overcome his food aggression.
You would guard your food too if you had been starved when you were little.
He is happy and joyful boy who will never have to be hungry or scared again.
He is super sweet and intelligent and everyone loves him.
Beanie is on a special diet for his nutritional needs, along with supplements for age-related joint and mobility issues.

Miss Thomas is a Calico Tabby mix female kitty that was abandoned by her birth mom who was probably killed by predators.
Thomas and her two brothers, Owie and Birdy, were tiny kittens just barely opening their eyes.
They were not going to make it much longer and were dehydrated, starving and covered with fleas.
All three have health issues from congenital defects.
Thomas suffers from asthma and has to have regular medication and a special diet.
She is an avid huntress and loves being outside.

Rain came from a hoarding situation in a filthy barn. Three foals died before she was born due to a neglectful caretaker who is a veterinarian.
Her rough start to life was not her fault and she was very scared when she arrived.
The other horses on the ranch soon welcomed her into the herd and Rain flourished.
Because of this early trauma she was quick to bolt and nervous of new situations.
Her confidence has grown over the years and now she is balanced and happy.
Rain is now a loving, athletic mare who will never turn down a treat.
She spends her time on the lush green rolling hills on the ranch.
Rain has developed some age related issues and is on supplements and nutrient rich food.

Lilly came to the ranch as a stray kitten who was hungry and had a bad eye infection.
Sweet as can be, this girl lived the rest of her long life on the ranch. At almost 20 years of age, we said goodbye to this angel.
Lilly's favorite things to do were to lounge in the raspberries, chase feather toys, and sleep by the fireplace.

This 11-year-old handsome boy
is part Russian Blue.
He lived in a scary neighborhood in the city with cars speeding on residential streets
and a horrible human was torturing
and murdering cats.
Blue came to the ranch for a better life far away from evil humans or speeding cars.
Now he has over 2 acres to explore where he is safe and can spend his time being a cat.
This super sweet boy can be found napping on his favorite cat tree or among the raspberries
in the summertime.
Blue has arthritis and bursitis and is on medication and supplements.
Hopefully, he has many happy and healthy years ahead of him on the ranch.

Jack is one of the founding residents of the ranch.
He came here as a tiny kitten, sickly, with eyes infected so badly he couldn't open them.
One eye had a deep scar that eventually had to be removed.
But even with all of those things stacked against him, this sweet boy was happy and lived a long and joyful life with his three other littermates.
Jack was a gentleman, everyone loved him and he would never pass up an empty lap.
His loss in April of 2022 was devastating for he graced us with is presence for almost 19 years.
Age related kidney disease took its toll and we said goodbye.

My husband, Dan, and I devote our lives to caring for the most deserving companion animals who, by no fault of their own, ended up without a family or someone to love them or care for them.
